Sports are meant to be enjoyed, but enjoying sports with a bit of fun is the best way to go about it. Even if that fun has a bit of fear associated with it. Whether participating in a game or viewing from the stands, one of the last things you’d expect is to be frightened during a sporting event.
Here are the scariest real life events that have happened in the sports world:
The Pfister Hotel
The Pfister Hotel is a historic hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It’s served as the lodgings for various pro baseball teams on many occasions. Numerous players from the Brewers, Dodgers, and many others have said strange occurrences have happened while staying at the hotel. Many have even refused to stay there altogether.
A Brewers manager relayed a story where a new rookie had awoken in the middle of the night and the blinds and windows were all open — something he had made sure were shut on that cold winter night. He closed them, and was confused and creeped out, only to wake up the next morning from a frightful chill, caused by his window and blinds being wide open like the night before.
An even more extreme case came from Washington Nationals sprayer Bryce Harper. “I had laid a pair of folded jeans with shoes placed on top on an end table. After taking a shower, I came out to see my pants and shoe tossed on the floor, and the end table pushed up against the wall on the other side of the room.”

This story comes from an old friend named Shannon, who had played junior varsity basketball in high school.
During an evening home game, her team was losing by 34 points. During the match, Shannon got fed up and ended up ejected from the game for intentional pushing of a spectator who had been taunting her.
She headed to the lockers, only to arrive to a locked door. Not wanting to bother her coach, who was already upset with her, she went around to the outside doors, which were normally locked.
Surprisingly the door was left open to the cold air. Upon entering, the lights were off, and this was a time before smartphones and most teens didn’t have cell phones. So, she started navigating to the other end of the locker room guiding with her hand, and using the small amount of moonlight shining through the slotted windows.
Almost to the other side of the room, Shannon heard a locker quietly close. She immediately called out “Why didn’t you turn on the light?” thinking it was a teammate. She got no reply. She started to move over to the aisle hearing another pair of footsteps other then her own. She got just a glimpse of someone else, ducking behind the other end, hiding.
Thoroughly creeped out, she got to the light switch and turned it on. She was a little irritated by being spooked, so she started searching the aisles, hearing the other pair of footsteps always on the aisle next to her. Noticing there were holes in the lockers, she waited to peek after hearing the footsteps passing on the other side.
It was very dim as though the other hole was obstructed. After a second, she realized she was looking directly into a human eye. Shannon ran for her life screaming.
A few weeks later she learned the assistant coach wanted to teach her a lesson. She was never ejected from a game again!
Andy Murray and The Maid
Wimbledon tennis champion Andy Murray was awakened one morning to a hotel maid sitting on his bed stroking his arm. Upset he demanded she leave. During his match that week he happened to notice a woman with a striking appearance to the maid he had encountered.
At first he thought he was mistaken. However, during a tournament in Barcelona he was walking to his hotel room when he noticed a woman at the end of the hall staring at him. When their eyes met, the woman quickly continued out of his vision. It was that same woman again. Worst of all, she was dressed as a maid!
He claimed to have seen the same woman at subsequent tournaments in the stands. He said he chooses a low key life and doesn’t want to be bothered with security measures, however now he warns hotel security just in case his stalker appears to trespass on him again.
